The New Point Comfort Fire Company was incorporated on August 2, 1913 as the New Point Comfort Chemical Engine Company back when the "Village of Keansburg" was actually split down the middle of Main Street half being a part of Raritan Township (now Hazlet) and Middletown Township.
With a booming Summer population, sometimes reaching over 40,000 people and new homes and hotels being constructed, the residents of the New Point Comfort section of Keansburg (hence our name) saw a need for a second fire company, one of their own, and so we were born. It wasn't until 1923 when the Fire Department was officially formed and the command structure of one Fire Chief originated. On the even years, the Keansburg Fire Company #1 (est 1912) holds the Chief's position and on the odd years New Point Comfort has the Chief. Each fire company has their own Chief, who is known as the Asst Fire Chief on their opposite years.
Throughout the decades, the Fire Company has had many changes in both name and location of our Building. Other changes in including demographics and vehicles have come and gone through the years, even including our rank structure. One thing that has not changed since our inception almost 100 years ago was that we have always provided FREE fire service to the Borough and surrounding Communities who may need our help. Through the efforts of the Firemen and the Ladies Auxiliary, we were able to furnish ourselves with property, a building and our first apparatus (and horses).
Without the help and support of the citizens of the Borough of Keansburg, our Auxiliary and the fundraising efforts of the firefighters, we would have had to close our doors long ago. Donations from our supporters go directly toward much needed maintenance and repairs of our building as well as invaluable supplies for our Volunteer members.
Anything anyone may be able to send would be greatly appreciated and put to great use.
Our highly trained, motivated, and skilled group vigilant volunteers are ready and able to respond 24/7/365. Most of us have spent Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and many other holidays away from our families. Why do we do it? It's simple, because of the desire to help our neighbors, friends, and families, we all live here too.
Remember, when you may hear those fire whistles going off at 3:00 AM and they may sound loud, frustrating and annoying to you… that they sound like the songs of angels to those in need.
